How FISH Works
What does it take to run FISH?
Our Food Pantry is overseen by a Board of Directors made up of two members from each of the six sponsor churches and four at-large members. Our Executive Director is responsible for day-to-day operations.
We’re open Monday and Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. , Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m and the fourth Saturday of each month from 10am to 1pm.
In order to operate, we require the service of 70+ volunteers each week. Including our Board, the FISH is 98.5% volunteer-driven
We employee an Executive Director, 1 part time assistant, and 1 part time warehouse worker.
Donations & Grants
Food is brought each Sunday to the 6 churches that established the FISH: Faith Lutheran, First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, St. George Episcopal, St. Joseph Catholic, and Umpqua Unitarian Universalist.
Food is also donated through the Roseburg Food Project 6 times each year on the second Saturday of even numbered months.
Food is collected at local churches and businesses.
Regional Food Bank (UCAN) includes donated food from local grocers and wholesale food from Oregon Food Bank and USDA.
FISH also receives monetary grants from foundations and donations from individuals and business. While the grants must be applied for each year, other donations come in throughout the year.
Individuals are welcome to donate and contribute food items, cash or supplies at any time: simply stop by our FISH pantry at 405 Jerry’s Drive in Roseburg and drop off your items!
Statistics
- 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of food given out each week
- 400+ family units are helped each month, 23% are seniors, 29% are children
- 45% use the pantry only once per year
- 75% use the pantry 3 or fewer times per year
- 58% live within Roseburg city limits with the remainder throughout Douglas County
